Sap resonance

T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land poses the question, “What are the roots that clutch, what branches grow / Out of this stony rubbish?” reflecting the disconnection in modern life (Eliot, 1922). In the context of China’s rapid urbanization, this disconnect is visible as people become increasingly detached from nature.

This interactive installation was designed to address this issue by using technology to reconnect humans with the environment. Through an LED tree-shaped sculpture and sensory engagement, an emotional connection is fostered, and reflection on the role of humans in the natural world is prompted.

The project aims not for a return to nature, but for a balance between technological advancement and ecological responsibility, addressing the theme of disruption in both ecological and human terms.
